General Help Topics

WBSmates is a project-oriented social network, dedicated for project professionals. Therefore project is the core element of WBSmates social network structure.

What are the advantages of such project-oriented approach?

First of all, you can reunite with colleagues from your past projects. You can share experience and lessons learned. Secondly, you can build your project-oriented professional profile. And in some industries and in some professions your project experience is more important than your employers. Last but not least, there might be project related opportunities. Let them find you.

After registration you can complete your professional profile. A more complete profile will increase your visibility in the network, and make it easier to re-connect with your project mates. You can submit typical elements of personal profile, like for example experience, skills, education, or owned certificates. Anyway, the most important element of your professional profile will be your project experience.

Personal profile is divided into 10 sections. Please remember to press SAVE before moving to the next section. Otherwise your edits will be lost.

In “Edit my profile” you can maintain your profile privacy settings. You can define what elements of your profile are publicly visible, and what are for your network members only. Please note that some elements of your profile must be publicly visible, because of the nature and aim of WBSmates.

There are two types of links between you and other members of WBSmates. Direct connection is a connection to your trusted peer, established when one member sends an invitation to another person, and recipient accepts the invitation. Project connection is a connection to your project mates, established automatically you and other members who joined the same project community.

This function is available in the “Settings” menu, and allows you to delete selected direct connections to other WBSmates members, or to leave the selected project teams.

Project is the basic element of the WBSmates’ social network structure. Each project has description, localization, several classifications, and timeframe defined. You can define project partners – typically vendors who significantly contributed to the project. For example typical project partners are consulting companies or software vendors. For each project you can also define project teams – there are some generic teams available for every project – but you can define ones specific for your project.

When you join a project at WBSmates, you have to submit basic information about your role in the project and your project team. Another important information is your company/organization – indicating whether you participated in a project as a team member from the entity running the project, or from project partner (vendor) who provided certain services and resources to the project. All the mentioned fields are flexible – you can either select one of the existing entries, submitted at the time of project creation or by other team members, or you can select “Other” and enter your own new category. Another element of your personal project information are dates – when you started, and when you finished working at the project. These dates must be within the overall project timeframe. You can also provide descriptive information about your role in the project, which will be displayed on your profile.
Each project can have a forum. Project forum is visible only for project team members.

Projects are typically related to specific physical locations. These can be office buildings or construction sites where project teams were located, hotels where teams were accommodated, or simply restaurants or bars where project team members were spending time after working hours.

Project site can have a description, website link, and a photo. Project team members can post comments about project sites.
All the network communication including invitations, notifications, and confirmations is performed via WBSmates mailbox. Using this mailbox you can also send messages to all the WBSmates members. You will be notified about the new messages in your WBSmates mailbox by an email sent to your internet mail address provided at the time of registration.

In WBSmates you can collect points for certain activities in the network. Total points collected reflect your activity level and size of your network. You can track your points history using the “View points history” function. The following activities in WBSmates will be rewarded with points:

·         New member

If you invite a new member to WBSmates, either to your personal contacts or to a project, you get one point. The prerequisite is that the new member will register and activate the account.

·         New project

You can get 2 points as a result of creation of a new project, which will be joined by at least 3 project team members.

·         Network size bonus

You can get a certain number of points when your personal network exceeds certain number of direct connections. You can get 3 points if your network exceeds 50 direct connections, 10 points for 100, and 50 points for 500 direct connections.

There are several reports available in the WBSmates, that allow users to quickly find projects or project mates. Reports offer flexible search functions, based either on keywords, or member or project characteristics.

On top of above there are functions available to search jobs. You can search jobs using keywords, job types (contract, permanent, or both), locations, or skills required (coming soon).
We are working hard to ensure that WBSmates is used ethically and in accordance with our Terms of Service. Unfortunately abuse happens. If you identify a situation where you believe that a member is violating WBSmates’ Terms of Service, or if you face at WBSmates other inappropriate or unethical behaviors, please send an e-mail to abuse@WBSmates.com, and we will do our best to handle the reported issue.
